Hi Tweeters,
Brenda Senturia and I did a SAS field trip to the (gasp) rainy/cold eastside
on Sunday. It was supposed to be nice! Ah well we did see some great
flowers and the birds were pretty good. Highlights for me were a flock of
35-40 Greater White-fronted Geese flying up the Columbia at the
Vantage/Ginko rest area. Also at the rest area were lots of Yellow-rumped
Warblers and a couple Golden-crowned Kinglets (really weird?). We also had
stupendous looks at the Sage Sparrow and Sage Thrasher. The thrashers were
displaying- raising their wings while perched and flying in loops. It was
the first tiime I had seen this behavior. The Long-eared Owl was still on
the nest at Crab Creek and very cooperative. The Yellow-headed Blackbirds
were back at Frenchman's Coulee (they weren't there on the 11th). We also
saw 2 Turkey Vultures east of the pass.
