Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This
recording was made Thursday April 22. If you have anything to add call

Heavy migrations during the week brought VAUX'S SWIFTS, HAMMOND'S
FLYCATCHERS, CASSIN'S VIREOS, HERMIT THRUSHES, and HERMIT, NASHVILLE,
BLACK-THROATED GRAY, and WILSON'S WARBLERS into the state. There were
more than usual sightings of TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRES in western Oregon,
including 5 in Portland's Mt. Tabor Park on April 21.

There was a LOGGERHEAD SHRIKE in Brookings April 14, and two WESTERN
KINGBIRDS at Floras Lake, south of Bandon April 19. Another was at Coos
Bay April 21. Two BLUE-WINGED TEAL were near Coquille April 17. PURPLE
MARTINS were back at Lakeside, north of Coos Bay April 11.

A breeding plumaged LAPLAND LONGSPUR was at Yaquina Bay April 18, and two
were at the South Jetty of the Columbia River April 16. A late ROCK
SANDPIPER was on Barview Jetty at Tillamook Bay April 16, the same day a
SANDHILL CRANE was observed near Tillamook.

The April 17 offshore boat trip out of Depoe Bay found no FULMARS, but
they did see 281 SOOTY SHEARWATERS, 2 PINK-FOOTED SHEARWATERS, 220
RED-NECKED PHALAROPES, and one RED PHALAROPE.

On April 17 two YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRDS, 15 BLACK-NECKED STILTS, and 18
ROSS'S GEESE were at Steigerwald Lake NWR near Washougal, Washington.
Another STILT was at the Mollala Sewage Ponds April 17. A WESTERN
KINGBIRD was near Mollala April 21. A WHITE-TAILED KITE was at
Springdale, east of Troutdale April 21.

PURPLE MARTINS returned to Sauvie Island April 17. The best time to
observed them is early in the morning or late in the afternoon. A
MOCKINGBIRD was in SW Portland April 17, but it did not remain.

On April 18 a YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRD, a LONG-BILLED CURLEW, two breeding
plumaged HORNED GREBES, and five SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHERS were at the
Fernhill Wetlands in Forest Grove.

On April 17 the RED-BREASTED GOOSE and three ROSS'S GEESE were at Ankeny
NWR, south of Salem. On April 18 two LOGGERHEAD SHRIKES and a RED FOX
SPARROW were at Detroit Flats in the Cascades east of Salem. A MOUNTAIN
BLUEBIRD was near Lebanon April 14. A BLACK-NECKED STILT was at Finley
NWR April 17.

A CASPIAN TERN and four SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHERS were at Fern Ridge
Reservoir April 18. A WESTERN KINGBIRD was at the east parking lot of Mt.
Pisgah, east of Eugene April 19.

The first BULLOCK'S ORIOLES and BLACK-HEADED GROSBEAKS were south of
Grants Pass April 18. The first WESTERN TANAGER was there April 20, and a
LAZULI BUNTING was near Grants Pass April 21.

Among the many shorebirds in the fields south of Klamath Falls April 18
were many AVOCETS, STILTS, IBIS, and 250 BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER.
