Tweets,

I took an 10 mile run this morning along the trail that runs along
Lake Washington just to the West of I405 between Coal Creek Parkway
in Bellevue and 44th in Renton. I always carry mini-binoc's with me
on these runs - this morning I was glad I do. In the stretch between
112th and 44th I looked down to the lake and saw what I thought was a
swan. Since this would be unusual for this part of the lake (for any
swan species including the horrible introduced Mutes) I stopped and
pulled out the binoc's ... surprise! not a swan but a single
American White Pelican. I fought the steaming up of binocs for about
10 minutes watching the bird just sitting on the water - he was still
there when I passed him on the way back at 6:45. This is the second
year in a row I have seen American Whites on the lake during he last
week of April - but they always seem to disappear within a day or two.

Also, yesterday (4/22/99) I found a pair of Yellow-headed Blackbirds
in the very small marsh just to the west (across the street) of the
Target store in Issaquah. The male was singing and the female
sticking close by. What are the nesting records for this species in
King County? This marsh has a number of pairs of Red-Wings and I've
also found Virginia Rail, Sora, Yellow-throats, Red-Heads (ducks, not
Lucy) and a Chat there in the past. Also in the marsh area was the
single largest Canada Goose I have EVER seen. A true monster,
perhaps 25+ pounds - he was at the west end of the marsh kind of
across the street from (Issaquah Valley?) Bank.

I am off to Manhattan (NYC) for 2 months on Sunday for work
(reworking and expanding a big .com web site). Hope to get in some
weekend birding including the impending crunch of Warblers and other
migrants. Anyone in Tweeterland from that area with advice?

Good Birding to all-
