Greetings,

Things have changed at the Green Lake (Central Woodland Park) Bald Eagle
nest.

Yesterday the adults were still hunkered down in incubation posture. Today
they sit higher (brooding), spend considerable time looking down in the nest
(surprise for first time parents when those eggs break...), and are bringing
food (2' carp by the male) to the nest.

It looks like we're in business. If there are two eggs (80% of breeding
eagles' nests contain 2 eggs), it will be another 3 days before the second
hatches. There's no way to look into the nest, so we will have to be
patient. In about two weeks the eaglet(s) will have gained enough strength
to stand up (until then they sit on their little behinds) and poke their
heads over the rim of the nest.

The female made one spectacular hunting trip out over the lake, coming down
about 50 yards from the northern dock at the Small Craft Center, much to the
surprise (and then delight) of people sitting in the sun on the dock.

I think I've mentioned this before. Spend some time at the Aqua Theater and
some spectacular aerial show will unfold...
