Katie saw her first hummer (caliope?) in the upper Ponderosa today. Last
year we saw the first one on April 26th near the west end of 44th. Last
year May 3rd we had our first caliope at our feeder. I put fresh "juice"
out tonight. Incidentally the latest issue of Bird Watcher's digest has
an interesting article on a non-toxic way to get rid of ants that invade
the house every spring and play follow the leader across the walls, etc.
Put sugar water in a hummer feeder and place it in their path (on the
floor or counter top) and they crawl in and drown. A great way to go
unless you are a Buddhist!! I used the vacuum to suck them up and after
a few days that was the end of the invasion. cheers hans
