Hello Tweeters,
Vicki and i combined birding and looking for the first Dragonflies of this
year.For the last two weeks i been looking for Dragonflies but du to such
cold weather and rain there was no hope.It was amost the end of our trip
we got rewarded with our first Dragonflies the Pacific Forktail Ischnura
cervula at Schouweiler WRA on HWY 12 there where many, most all females. I
talked Vicki in to going to the CLEAR-CUT in Lacy. We walked a long way
before we saw the first Dragonflie the California Darner Ashna californica.
We had 10 of this verry striking species. Vicki learned to catch her first
Dragonflie .
We stopped in many places today which included BLACK LAKE MEADOWS, BRADY
LOOP RD,
MUD BAY and last, CLEAR-CUT in LACY.We had 68 spcies of birds. I will
mention the highlights.
Our frst stop was at Black Lake Meadows where we hoped to find a Solitary
Sandpiper.But the water level on this ponds are still to high.Birds of
interest where 1 Blue-winged Teal, 2 Red-breasted Sapsucker, arrival of the
Barn Swallows and many Common Yellowthroats.
Next stop Brady Loop Rd.
150 Evening Grosbeaks 30 Pine Siskin,and 5 Greater White-fronted Geese.
SCHOUWEILER WRA.
1 American Bittern, 1 Osprey,1 Virginia Rail, I male Red-breasted
Supsucker, 2 Northern Rough-winged Swallows many Marsh Wren , and 2 Greater
Yellowlegs.
MUD BAY:
1200 DUNLIN 25 LONG-billed Dowitcher 5 GREATER YELLOWLEGSand 2 Caspian
Tern.
CLEAR-CUT LACY:
2 Chipping Sparrow,1 male Purple Finch.
Still the highlight for me was the 2 Species of Dragonflies.
