There is a superb companion book to the bible "A Guide to Birds of Costa
Rica" (my favorite) -- it's "A Travel & Site Guide to Birds of Costa
Rica" It's very much like the better ABA guides, with self-guided
tours, hotels, restaurant recommendations, and, of course, where to see
the key birds or where to see the most birds for your money. It's also
very much like a Frommer's or Fodors Guide, with sections on "Money",
"Getting Around", etc. I think it's a must for anyone going to Costa
Rica to bird.
A classic for those of you who want to know more about the other flora
and fauna of Costa Rica is "Costa Rican Natural History" by Daniel
Janzen.
Both these books (and "AGttBoCR") are available from Flora and Fauna in
Pioneer Square, Seattle.

Good birding,
