Saturday and Sunday I spent in the Westport and Tokeland areas.
Saturday morning I tried Bottle Beach. Never having been there before,
I believed the guide books which say go 2.5 miles WEST of the Elk River
Bridge. An hour and 3 enquiries later I found it 2.5 mile EAST of the Elk
River
Bridge. By this time the tide was out and nothing was to be seen in the
fog. Sunday moring I went back and had better luck. Hundreds of dunling,
a thousand western, a few red knots, dozens of black-bellied plovers, and
hundreds of dowitchers. There was also a compact group of over 400 brant.
Elsewhere, in Willapa bay Caspian terns, yellow legs, quite a few c. loons,
horned grebes. Near Tokeland 3 Turkey vultures and a bald eagle.
