Today my feeder has been visited by a bird that for all the world looks
like a white crowned sparrow except nearly the entire head is white
(including under the throat) and the black stripes only go from the eyes
back and the crown of the head back - none of them reach the bill (which
is pinkish). It is substantially different than the other white crowned
sparrows I am seeing. I thought it might be the "Gambel's Form" shown
in
Petersons but the white extends around under the chin and covers the
cheeks as well. Any info here would be greatly appreciated.
