Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This
recording was made Thursday August 5. If you have anything to add call

On July 31 a black-headed subadult LAUGHING GULL was at the South Jetty
of the Columbia River. It could not be relocated. A possible TEMMINCK'S
STINT was reported from the South Jetty area during the week.

The first juvenile shorebirds are now arriving along the coast. Quite a
few SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPERS are being reported with four at Tillamook Bay
August 1. An AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVER and a MARBLED GODWIT were on the
North Spit of Coos Bay August 3. A SNOWY PLOVER was at the mouth of the
Necanicum River in Gearhart July 30. GREAT EGRETS are now showing up in
many areas.

The road beside Pony Slough on Coos Bay is now closed. The only way to
check the flats there is from the south end of the slough.

Large numbers of alcids are now being seen off Boiler Bay. On August 4
over 100 CASSIN'S AUKLETS, 45 RHINOCEROS AUKLETS, 5 TUFTED PUFFINS, 17
MARBLED MURRELETS, and over 1000 MURRES were seen there. With them were
220 HEERMANN'S GULLS and 20 RED-NECKED PHALAROPES. On August 2 over 2000
MURRES, 1127 CASPIAN TERNS, and 188 BROWN PELICANS were at the South
Jetty of the Columbia River.

Recently a trip to Zumwalt Road and the Beaver Creek Loop out of
Enterprise in northeast Oregon found good numbers of SWAINSON'S HAWKS,
FERRUGINOUS HAWKS, PRAIRIE FALCONS, and flocks of RED-TAILED HAWKS and
HARRIERS.
