Hey, let's get this straight once and for all: geese, crows, starlings etc.
aren't the problem, we are. They are symptoms (pretty mild ones at that) of
the mindless expansion of our population and economy. All sorts of behavior
that is acceptable when human populations are limited become unacceptable
when they get too large. The lawn fetish is an innocuous enough thing when
indulged in by thousands but when millions unthinkingly repeat the behavior
(and in most cases it is a decision made unthinkingly, just as the decision
to have children is usually made unthinkingly) what was harmless becomes
harmful.

And, I have to confess, when I hear people cavalierly proposing to slaughter
wild animals that we, through our actions, have turned into "nuisances", the
whole Soylent Green alternative doesn't sound so bad to me.
