Today while driving from Fort St. James to Lovell Cove (a lovely logging
camp at the top end of Takla Lake) a drive of 3 hrs. at 100kph on very dusty
gravel logging roads, I spotted 3 separate Ruffed Grouse Females with chicks
that were only a couple of days old. The normal time here is early to mid
May. I guess our non spring caused a low success rate in early nesting.
Michael Hobbs I was in Redmond at the beginning of July and counted 15
Black Swifts at Marymoor Park at the lake end of the board walk July 2 at
0930.. I also saw my first ever Black-headed Grosbeak on the same morning.
This all on the start of a trip to California with our 4 foster daughters
that the netted me 20 life birds and a serious case of roller coaster bum.
