for Don Baccus:

I'm posting this third-hand, unfortunately, so am guessing a bit as to county.

Also, the date's a bit approximate, but accurate within a couple of days if the

information I got is correct.

A friend of Neil Schulman (ex-Portland Audubon educator) saw and photographed
an
American White Pelican while kayaking on Sturgeon Lake. Since the put-ins
I've
visited are, I think, in Multnomah County (though near Columbia), I've entered

this as a Multnomah County sighting. I'm not sure the guy kept track of where

he was while on the lake. If I get better information later, I'll correct it
in
the database.

(Sturgeon Lake is on Sauvie Island north of Portland, for those of you not
familiar with the area)

They were kind enough to forward me a photograph of the bird, which can be seen

at http://donb.photo.net/rare-birds/Pelicanlite.jpg.

Which reminds me, eventually I'll have to incorporate a photo upload feature as

part of this rare bird alert service, won't I? :)
