Picking up on the thread of where starlings like to nest: some of you might
remember this, I reported on it about two years ago (I think), but I'm going
to bring it up again 'cause its a good story (or at least I think it is):

The strangest place I have seen starlings trying to nest was the tail of an
airplane sitting on the runway at the Kennewick airport. The plane was
waiting for passengers while the starling couple was carrying nest stuff and
putting it into the space between the vertical stabilizer and the rudder. I
mentioned it to an airline counter lady who said they had been trying to
nest in every airplane that parked in that spot. The plane comes in, they
start to build, the plane flies off, the next one lands and they start to
build again. I don't know if they were successful (I left on the plane
myself) but they sure were persistent.
