Today at about 2 pm, Sunday 8 August, my husband Dale was working on his
car in our driveway when a Merlin tackled a juvenile Cowbird right in front
of him.
The Merlin brought the Cowbird right to the ground, wrestled with it, and the
cowbird escaped. The cowbird darted underneath the car and the Merlin flew
off. The cowbird hopped around for a while, confused, but seemed none the
worse for wear and eventually flew off.

Plus, yesterday, a Peregrine Falcon flew over my house, surrounded by a
cloud of irate swallows. At one point the Falcon rolled upside down to snatch
at one of the swallows, but of course was unsuccessful. The swallows drove
the falcon northwest towards the Capitol Forest and were still harassing him
when I lost sight of them.
