On the TV program CBS Sunday Morning, (Aug. 8) there was a long piece on research being done on the Adele Penguins in the Antarctica. One of the researchers is David Ainley who I assume still works for Point Reyes Bird Observatory. Throughout the piece there was no mention of PRBO, or who was sponsoring the research. It did a fairly good job explaining the research which is looking at the breeding biology of the penguins. Seems like the ice is disappearing and the food (krill) is getting harder to find which is making things very difficult for the Adele.

Between the story on the penguins and their discussion of how the drought is a result of the last three years of less than normal rain, global warming was looking pretty ugly and imminent. It was very sobering material.

Does anybody have any information on who sponsors this particular research, and if it is PRBO, why weren't they mentioned? A little national exposure would do wonders for the fund-raising process. I don't know how many people know that their research extends so far beyond North and South America.

thanks
