HI Tweeters:
This is a quick note to let you know that this month marks the 90th
anniversary of the publication of the Birds of Washington by William Leon
Dawson and John Hooper Bowles. In August 1909, the Birds of WA was finally
delivered to subscribers. If any of you haven't had a chance to read any
of this 2 volume set I recommend the following 2 species accounts:
1)"English"/House Sparrow:pages 96-99. especially the paragraph that
starts:"WHAT a piece of mischief is the sparrow!"
2)"Sooty" Fox Sparrow:pages 152-155. Note the ethnographic information on
this subspecies.

If anyone is interested in learning more about the history of this
publication consult:

Condor 52:86-87.

Sincerely
