Several years ago we had a snowy Thanksgiving week in Seattle ( 91 or
92). That was the first time I had contact with Anna's in my Magnolia
(Seattle) neighborhood. I promptly put up a feeder and soon had at
least 3 males and possible 4 females ( throat patch id)
On Thanksgiving day of that week the snow was still on the ground but it
was a bright clear day. When I went to the laundry room I heard a high
pitch scratchy noise. I traced it to a male Anna's
sitting in a patch of sun on a holly tree. I could clearly see that
this bird was singing. It sounded like a tape recorder with a scratchy
sounding rewind. He was perfectly content to sing for what seemed to be
several minutes while I stood watch.

One of those birders' moments that I never will forget.
