Hello Tweeters,
This Trip supposed to be manly finding hard to get Dragonflies. But what
can you due if the sun only came out three hours a day. Either driving home
or stay and make the best out of this situation. I started thursday what
manly was driving to get to Colville which is in Stevens Co.This was the
start and ending at Bunchgrass Meadow, which goes of Sullivan Lake Road
what will bring you to Salmo Mountain. This is usual birded for Boreal
Chickadees and Boreal Owls.First day i drove this to Frater Lake, driving
there stopping on the way on the Little Pend Oreille River.By the time i
got to Frater Lake it was to late to find any Dragonflies. So i decided to
stay on the Lake overnight. In the evening there was quite few Common
Nighthawks. The next morning i wake up to Fog, but the birds was singing
and flying around me.In about an hour i counted 32 species, i only will
mention few.
Osprey
Northern saw-whet Owl
Red naped Supsacker
Olive-sided Flycatcher
Cordilleran Flycatchers
Clark's Nutcrackers
Mountain Chickadees
large amount of Yelow -rumped Warblers
A Common Goldeneye with 4 chicks
The weather dont seems to clear up, so i drove to Bunchgrass Meadow.Going
up in elevation the weather turned worst.By the time i got to the top it
rained, there was no hope to see any Dragonflies.
This place looked so good in scenery,so i stayed in the car to waite to
clear. After two hours it looked as if the weather would brake.I got out and
looked around and discovert this huge Animal, looking to my Binoculars i
discovert this huge beast was a MOOSE. I was trilled to find such good
findings. This is my second Moose in Washington, the other sightings was in
Long Swamp Okanagon Co. there we had two Moose. While i was there two man
came and ask me if i saw the Moose to learn from them there been seeing the
Moose for at least a week. I stayed in Bunchgrass Meadows for two days. I
did find one new County Record there, the RINGED EMERALD.Like i said there
before, i only had three hours where the sun was out the sun went away so
the Dragonflies.
The last two days i went to Twin Lakes, which goes of HYW.20 i was looking
there for Lakes Darners (Aeshna eremita) and the Black-tipped Darners
(Aeshna tuberculifera),this are Dragonflies you only can find in verry few
places in Washington. I was driving around past the Twin Lakes and saw 5
White-winged Crossbills feeding on Cones.I did get my Lake Darner what i
realy came up for.
