Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This
recording was made Thursday August 12. If you have anything to add call

A possible LONG-TOED STINT was reported August 7 from the Bayocean
Shorebird Flats on Tillamook Bay. It could not be relocated.

On August 3 a HORNED PUFFIN was observed just offshore a few miles south
of Bandon.

A WILSON'S PHALAROPE was on the ocean at Port Orford August 10. A PRAIRIE
FALCON was on the North Spit of Coos Bay August 8. A PACIFIC
GOLDEN-PLOVER was on the Spit August 4. Two migrating NIGHTHAWKS were
over Ona Beach State park, south of Newport August 6.

The August 7 offshore boat trip out of Depoe Bay only went out 12 miles
but found many good birds. Four BLACK-FOOTED ALBATROSS, 410 FULMARS, 90
FORK-TAILED STORM-PETRELS, and 13 RED-NECKED PHALAROPE were seen. A
HERRING GULL was at the mouth of the Columbia River August 7. A
YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRD was there August 5. Migrant hummingbirds were
observed during the week coming ashore along the jetty and disappearing
inland.

RED and WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS have been reported recently moving
southward from British Columbia into Washington in an apparent invasion.
RED CROSSBILLS are now being seen in Oregon in increasing numbers.

A WHITE PELICAN was observed August 8 flying over the north end of Sauvie
Island. A SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPER was near the Mulino Airport August 7. A
WILLIAMSON'S SAPSUCKER was near Big Lake in the Santiam Pass area August
5. Birds are now dispersing from their nesting sites with many moving to
higher elevations and drifting over the Cascade Crest.

On August 11 a BLACK-SHOULDERED KITE was along Westside Road, south of
Klamath Falls.
