Today while riding the ferry from Winslow to Seattle, about half way
across I looked out of the window and saw a rufous hummingbird flying
alongside the ferry. The bird was maintaining the same speed as the
ferry, even moving up slightly. It stayed about 1-6 feet above the water,
mostly about a foot above the waves. It did not appear to have any
problem keeping up. I'd never encountered a hummingbird over a large
expanse of water before, and I was surprised by how close to the water it
flew. \
