Never thought my husband's addiction to sugar would come in so handy!
He usually buys C&H which is cane sugar. The hummers have been around
all summer. We have 3 feeders and they use all of them. Lately, it seems
young juveniles have been fighting for rights to the feeders. No one is
winning, they just end up chasing each other, zooming right past us as we
sit about 5 feet away around our firepit. One of them visited each port on
all the feeders just to make the point they are his. All in vain.

Yesterday, our neighbor was sitting with us out there and he pointed his
finger at my husband. One of the hummers came between them about a
foot away from both of them and just hung there for about 15 seconds.
Awesome. It convinced my neighbor to get a feeder and "steal" our
hummers from him.

A few days ago, I saw small yellow birds playing in one of our alder trees.
I swear they were baby western tanagers. We have a breeding pair so it
might have been, but they flew so fast over the drainfield clearing and I
didn't have my binocs, so I couldn't confirm. Hope they stay around a bit
longer, so I can see them. I really need to get some feeders set up.
