Apparently I erased the message from the person (Mike Patterson?) who
wanted reports of Caspian Tern sightings in the Puget Sound area so I'll
post them here.

The last several days there have been a few Caspian Terns hanging around
Meadow Point at Golden Gardens Park in Ballard (Seattle). At low tides
of minus a foot or so a sandbar is visible off Meadow Point, and the
last few mornings there have been between 5 and 10 terns on the sandbar.
I haven't gotten close enough to confirm the number of juveniles every
day, but a week ago Wednesday there were two adults and one juvenile
fishing around the green buoy and today (Aug. 13) there were six adults
and two juvies on the beach at Meadow Point, an adult and a juvenile off
shore, and three adults in the flock of California Gulls smack dab in
the middle of the beach to the south, no more than 30 feet from the
sidewalk. Two of them had their heads and bills flat on the sand with
their tails pointing up at a 45 degree angle, both were pointing north,
parallel to the shoreline.

(Meadow Point is the westernmost point forming the north end of the
beach at Golden Gardens. Drive all the way to the turnaround at the end
of the park and follow the path over the pond to the viewing platform.
