I've seen rafts of 16 to 18 Common Mergansers in Lake Keechelus, Desolation
Sound, B.C., and coasting down the Snoqualmie River past the golf course
near Fall City. And what about the massive gathering every fall of
Red-breasteds in the bay west of Deception Pass? Mergansers in the hundreds!
Drive to road end past Cranberry Lake, walk out past West Point in late
October or early November. It helps if you know someone in the area who can
clue you in when they arrive.
