Hi All

Well things have been a little slow in the list department lately so I
thought I might do one from the train. This trip was on Friday the 13th and
started at 6:00 AM and finished at 1:00 AM on the 14th with an 8 hour
lay-over in beautiful downtown North Bend BC. The weather was rotten on the
way up otherwise the count would have been higher. Most if the birds were
seen on the way up or at NB.

Common Loon
Red-necked Grebe---in silhouette only at a distance - guessing on this one.
Great Blue Heron
Turkey Vulture---2 for Diann, soaring over North Bend
Canada Goose---hundreds
Mallard
American Kestrel---3 just south of NB. I think they are starting to move.
Rock Dove
Band-tailed Pigeon
Mourning Dove
Barn Owl--- peering out from it's roost in the girders of the Pitt River
bridge as we passed underneath it.
Belted Kingfisher
Northern Flicker
Eastern Kingbird
Steller's Jay
American Crow
Barn Swallow
American Robin
European Starling
Cedar Waxwing
Western Tanager (f)
Spotted Towhee
Song Sparrow
Dark-eyed Junco
House Sparrow

Also seen were several deer and lots of small bats (species unknown). These
bats, incidentally, only fly at about 20 mph. We catch up to them in the
tunnels all the time and our speed is usually 25 mph.

Well that's it for now.

Good birding
