Also at Crow Butte State Park today: at the sewer ponds on the road to
caretaker's residence - 2 WESTERN SANDPIPERS, one adult in winter plumage
and one juvenile and a pair of BLACK-NECKED STILTS behaving as though
they are nesting! They really lost their cool every time I got within 20
yards of the fence around the ponds and didn't settle down again until I
was long gone. No young were visible, but birds rose from the same
location each time disturbed.
