Hello Tweeters,

Following up on Andy Stepniewski's report, I hiked up to Mount Fremont
Lookout on Tuesday and was able to locate the pair of White-tailed
Ptarmigan near a snowfield just down from the lookout itself. On the
trail up from Sunrise, there was a nice assortment of birds including a
flock of about a dozen Evening Grosbeaks, several Pine Siskins, Cassin's
Finches and Mountain Chickadees as well as a male Blue Grouse by the
trail. American Pipit numbers seemed to be down from the last time I
hiked the trail in mid-July but there were several birds near the
summit. Also near the summit but refusing to sit down was a group of
4-6 Gray-crowned Rosy Finches.

Later I ventured over to White Pass where I birded the White Pass
Campground. The place was not only alive with birds but also with
mosquitoes. I have never encountered so many in the Northwest before.
It felt like Florida. In the bird department, I came across:

Evening Grosbeak (hordes)
Olive-sided Flycatcher
Red-naped Sapsucker
Rufous Hummingbird
Hairy Woodpecker
Orange-crowned Warbler
Dark-eyed Junco
Brown Creeper
Nashville Warbler
to name but a few

Happy Birding
