For those who want to add to their lifelist of birds discussed in
literature or for those who want to read a fine book that addresses
bird, you might want to read Andes Rising by James Munves. The book
focuses on Thomas Cooper, exworker on the Manhattan Project and now a
volunteer for the Peace Corps in Columbia. Most of the book is Cooper's
journal notes including a fascinating account of Frank Chapman's
ornithological explorations in the early part of the 20th century, good
descriptions of birds, and some discussion of theology. The back of the
book blurbs were written by a priest, a novelist, an ornithologist, and
a rabbi.
