When cat owners rid themselves of their cats - I would call that making
amends.

When cat owners declaw their cats - I would call that making amends.

When cat owners leash their cats outside and otherwise keep them inside - I
would call that making amends.

Until then, crying over dead birds and their babies does not make amends.
