Migration is well upon us, with shorebirds already well on their way. I
thought perhaps some of you might like to read a short report from a
primary hawkwatch in the Corpus Christie, Texas area. They started up just
a few days ago and have already had a variety of interesting species
including, besides raptorial birds, wood storks, groove-billed anis,
white-faced ibis, and many other exotics (to us). So . . . time for us to
start looking up and around!

That little thunderstorm south of us (I think they're still calling it
Tropical Storm Bret, at the moment) isn't affecting the flights yet, and
today's flight was very nice, according to Joel and Fernando's report:

501..Mississippi Kite
1....Red-shouldered Hawk
1....Broad-winged Hawk
8....Swainson's Hawk
1....Red-tailed Hawk
2....Harris' Hawk
1....Crested Caracara
1....Unidentified Buteo

518..Total

The watch is doing well on those beautiful Swallow-tailed Kites this early
in the season. Fernando reports one of the kites was considerate enough to
circle the watch a few times, giving observers nice, close looks>>>>
