Hello Tweeters,
I need to stay home one day to recuperate from an all week in the field. On
Monday the 16th i took an ABA Member from Upstate New York birding to
Bottle Beach and Tokeland. It was kind of fast trip since i would leave on
Tuesday at 5.00 AM on a journey to the North East corner of Washington to
find rare species of Dragonflies.
We started out at the Chehalis Wildlife (Schouweiler) to find some good
Birds, including two Green-backed Herron one American Bittern, right next
to each other the YELLOW WARBLER and the ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER. (is nice
to compare this two species) Red breasted Sapsucker,Turkey Vulture,Coopers
Hawk,Osprey, found the female Blue-winged Teal(which Patrick and i saw
there previous)
Wood Ducks 10 and lot's of Rough-winged Swallows.All together we had 24
species in a verry short way to go.
We went to Tokeland and find still the two Bartailed Godwit present (one in
breeding the other in first year Plumage)Many Marblet Godwit few Short
-billed Dowitcer calling tu-tu-tu quite rapidly.6 Willet and many
WHimbrel. We added onother 22 species to the list.
Off to Bottle Beach, what was on Monday not to productive. Finding only 12
species including the Black-bellied Plovers,Semipalmated Plovers, WHimbrel,
Least and Western Sandpipers, Ruddy Turnstone, the only Chestnut-backed
Chickadee on our trip. Many Common Yellowthroats, and 6 Ceder Waxwings, a
male Rufous Hummingbird , Barn Swallows, and THE BEST BIRD there was a
PEREGRINE FALCON (in good view)
As we departed in Dupond Steilacoom we exchanged E-mail and Adresses for
further communicate our last Bird was two Nighthawks close to I-5 .We only
had 59 species but had a great time talking Birds.
