Friday August 20th

The HUDSONIAN GODWIT found at the Reifel Bird Sanctuary yesterday was not
relocated today. The following birds were reported from the Robert's Bank
Jetty, AMERICAN WHITE PELICAN, OSPREY, an AMERICAN KESTREL, and from the
north side, 260 CASPIAN TERNS.

The nearby Tsawwassen Jetty produced 6 BLACK OYSTERCATCHERS and a BRANT. A
SEMI-PALMATED SANDPIPER was at Beach Grove Lagoon and two BAIRD'S SANDPIPERS
were at Iona.

A LONG-BILLED CURLEW and two PURPLE MARTINS were reported from Blackie Spit.

August 19th
A breeding plumaged HUDSONIAN GODWIT was discovered at about 1:30 pm in the
west field of the Reifel Bird Sanctuary.

Other more regular long-legged waders currently reported in the checklist
area include a WILLET at the base of the Tsawwassen Jetty, and from Blackie
Spit a LONG-BILLED CURLEW and several WIMBREL.

There was a late report from out of town of a WHITE-TAILED KITE seen
yesterday at the Rocky Point banding station on southern Vancouver Island.
Unfortunately, Rocky Point is a military reserve and not open to the public.
Mainland birders will be carefully scanning local shorelines during the next
few weeks with the news of good numbers of BROWN PELICANS are now being
seen off Port Renfrew on southwest Vancouver Island.

In other sightings for today a TURKEY VULTURE was seen in over flight at
29th Ave. and 232 St. Langley, and an immature PEREGRINE FALCON was along
the Boundary Bay dike at 112 St.

>From Brunswick Point Ladner, came an unusual report of two PEREGRINE
FALCONS
in active pursuit of RING-BILLED and GLAUCOUS-WINGED GULLS seemingly
oblivious to the shorebird flock.

Wednesday August 18th
A juvenile FRANKLIN'S GULL was at Pitt Lake and 26 COMMON TERNS were seen
from the White Rock Pier.

August 17th
There was a late report of a RED-NECKED PHALAROPE with a party of 27
LONG-BILLED DOWITCHERS at the foot of Piper Avenue at Burnaby Lake. The
birds were on mudflats at the end of the boardwalk. A BANK SWALLOW was
seen at the Iona Ponds.

There were no reports for Monday August 16th

August 15th
Five CASPIAN TERNS were reported from Boundary Bay Regional Park.

August 14th
The AMERICAN WHITE PELICAN and an OSPREY were seen at the Robert's Bank
Jetty and there was a late report of an AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVER at the foot
of 96th street Delta.

August 13th
A GREEN HERON and a female BULLOCK'S ORIOLE feeding three young were
reported from Colony Farms, Coquitlam.
