Birders,
On 8/21/99 am, we found a female Black & White Warbler
on Bateman Island, Richland WA (Benton County).
It was just north-west of our old feeder location. (on the left side of the
trail)
This is the same spot where we found the Black-throated Blue
Warbler last fall. (additional directions & birds below)

Bateman Island is just east of the mouth of the Yakima River.
Walk straight out the main trail about a quarter mile.
Look for a Zips cup in a tree. I plan to hang red ribbon Sunday am.

The Black & White was about 30 high in a mature willow tree.
Even though I had a camera with me, I was unable to get a photo
because it just wouldn't stay put! We watched it for about 5 minutes
& then it went down into the thick stuff. There were Orange-cr,
Yellow & Nashville's in the same area. This was Bob's 2nd for Benton
County & a state bird for us. :)

Numbers of migrants are increasing, but no big wave.
Black-headed Grosbeaks were fairly common.
Since we didn't see any there last week, I assume they are migrants.

A SEMI-PALMATED SANDPIPER was on the Yakima Delta. The water level
has finally dropped to a nice level. Some Western, Least SP,
Dowitchers, Yellowlegs were also noted.
