Spent a couple of hours Saturday morning doing a leisurely south
loop of Spencer Island (everett, washington). Got a late start
because the restaurant we were headed for was closed, and we had
to retreat to the Totem Pole (recommended).

Tide was out and few birds were around, especially shorebirds.
On our way out we ran to Greg Toffic (but we didn't hurt him) and
few other fellows he knew were leaving also saying, "Tide's coming in
and so are the shorebirds." Oh, well.

Best sightings: osprey, sora, bigger and smaller yellowlegs,
and a peregrine - coopers hawk skirmish.

In no particular order:

BLACK CAPPED CHICKADEE
GREEN BACKED HERON
CROW
ROCKDOVE
STARLING
First flight baby ROBIN
HOUSE FINCH
BARN SWALLOW
WESTERN WOODPEWEE (several)
OSPREY
CEDAR WAXWINGS (lots)
MALLARD
GREAT BLUE HERON
MARSH WREN
GREATER YELLOWLEGS
LESSER YELLOWLEGS (great opportunity to see them side by side!)
PIED BILLED GREBES
SORA (a bold little strutter)
KILLDEER
YELLOW WARBLER
MOURNING DOVE
SONG SPARROW
SPOTTED TOWHEE
KINGFISHER
BEWICK WREN
STELLAR JAY
ROUGH WINGED SWALLOW?

PEREGRINE
immature COOPERS HAWK, which rushed the perched peregrine
and chased it away. very cool scene.
The comparison of the two was great. The wife first thinking
the COOPERS was a MERLIN, and I said, no way too big.

She's the shorebirder, I'm the hawker and sparrower.

UNCONFIRMED (only one of us say it, or couldn't verify):

fabulous western brown duck
impatient brown mud duck
hardheaded halfwit
