Morning Tweets,

Last night (Monday) we spotted an immature Brown Pelican, sitting on a post
along the channel in the Nisqually Reach directly offshore from the
McAllister Creek mouth. We were in a boat, and approached closely without
flushing the bird. I imagine that it could be seen through a scope from
Luhr Beach, or along the dike trail at Nisqually. Recent postings about
dead murres indicate that water temperatures are still warm, despite (I
guess) the "La Nina" phenomenon, so I suppose I'm not too surprised at
seeing a pelican down this far in the Sound.

Common Tern numbers are building out in the Reach, feeding on sand lances
that are schooling. I haven't seen any jaegers attending the tern flocks
yet.
