> Ocean conditions were variable, with sea surface temperatures remaining
above
> normal. Species variety good, numbers of birds lower than 'long-term
'normal'.
> Some 'lights', high- and low-:

> Black-footed Albatross - 197, 171 and 151; Laysan Albatross - 1 on 21st;
> fulmars increasing to 582 on 21st; Pink-foots present but low; Buller's
7-16
> on each trip; Sooty - variable, but thousands in Grays Harbor channel on
> 21st; Short-tailed Shearwater - 2 at fishing vessel on 21st; Fork-tails
> 11-53; Leach's - 23 on 19th, none on 21st at same spot; phalaropes slowly
> increasing; Pomarine, Long-tailed jaegers and skua noted on all three
trips;
> Sabine's - 4, 16 and 17; Arctic Tern - 0, 23 and 3; murres - more chicks
than
> any time in the 1990s; Xantus' Murrelet - 2 on 14th; Cassin's - very few
> still; Tufted Puffin likewise. On 14th: 75 Northern Right-whale Dolphins
and
> 175 Grampus. Inshore, Brown Pelicans and Heermann's Gulls in possibly
record
> numbers.

> A few openings on 28 August trip. Except for possible no-shows or
> cancellations, trips on 4, 11 and 12 September and 9 October are
