I was on the Wahluke Slope yesterday, mostly in Franklin County north
of the Tri-Cities. A few migrants noted were a single Lewis
Woodpecker and bunches of hummingbirds, including at least 3 Rufous
and a smaller (probably Calliope) female chasing each other around a
wetland edge. It looked like the hummers were using alkali
paintbrush, which is pretty showy right now along with the purple
loosestrife. Pintails also are moving into the Columbia Basin. There
were lots of shorebirds (esp. sandpipers) at the saline wetland along
SR 26 near the Adams-Grant County line, but I didn't have time to
stop.
