Subject: Brown Pelican near Nisqually, Thurston Co.
Date: Aug 26 11:02:52 1999
From: Kraig,Eric - kraige at oclc.org
As of August 25, there were TWO immature pelicans off the mouth of
McAllister Creek. One was busily slurping up sand lances, while the other
seems permanently anchored to one of the channel marker posts.
Also feeding on the lances and herring: Numerous Caspian and Common Terns,
guillemots, and Rhinoceros Auklets. Adult murres are starting to appear, as
well as at least two pairs of Marbled Murrelets.
Small flocks of Dunlin are flashing around across the Nisqually flats.
