Hi, Tweets

My New England son is out for a visit and is a rockhound so yesterday we
set out for what I hoped was the closest area to look for minerals (hoping
to see lots of good birds). He chose the Hansen Creek area which is a
little southeast of North Bend. We drove all over forest roads, got high
up on a ridge or two and could look down on the gated Cedar River
Watershed, but nowhere were there many birds at all. I suppose most of it
could be contributed to it being mid-day, but I was still a bit surprised.
We saw a very few juncos, one song sparrow, heard a raven, and finally one
adult redtail deigned to rise off his perch in the valley and spiral up.
The closest thing we saw was a dragonfly heading down the road (sorry,
Ruth, I don't know dragonflies). Very quiet day.

If anyone out there knows of somewhere fairly close where interesting
minerals can be searched for and found, please let me know (privately) - my
son is pretty much a professional in this area.

Cheers, Diann
