Hi Tweets:

Two immature Red Crossbills showed up at the tube feeders today. Previously,
I'd seen just one immature. An adult female continues to feed also, though
the young ones appear to be on their own. At least one adult crossbill has
been around since June 7th.

An immature Hairy Woodpecker has been enjoying suet even though it has a
deformed bill. The upper mandible is thin, long and decurved while the lower
mandible is shorter and straight. Today an immature Downy Woodpecker followed
the Hairy and is begging to be fed by the Hairy, which continues to "defend"
its suet feeder. The Downy is adorable. The white supercilium feathers
stick straight up, forming a square-looking head. Both these birds are
females.

To date, I've seen 17 immature bird species in my yard this year. Then there
are the two baby Douglas's Squirrels the size of chipmunks, the
fawn................

Happy Birding!
