Saturday August 28th

A bird fitting the description of an ASH-THROATED FLYCATCHER was discovered
at noon today in Tswwassen fly catching from bushes at Boundary Bay
Regional Park. The birds was seen from a dike in a grassy area about two
thirds of the distance of Beach Grove Lagoon and the park's boardwalk area.

In other sightimgs a light morph PARASITIC JEAGER and 2 BLACK TURNSTONES
were seen from the tip of Iona's south jetty and a RED KNOT was at the base
of the jetty.

Twelve PURPLE MARTINS were reported from Maplewood Flats north Vancouver and
a and a steady stream of warblers, flycatchers and other small passerines
have been noted in the area all week.

Twenty-five SEMI-PALMATED PLOVERS and a SEMI-PALMATED SANDPIPER were at
Beach Grove Lagoon.


August 27th

There was a late report from the tip of the south jetty at Iona of a
SURFBIRD and 2 RED-NECKED PHALAROPES and a BLACK TURNSTONE, all juvenile
birds.

The WILLET was seen again near the base of the Tswwassen jetty and 6 BLACK
OYSTERCATCHERS were counted at the far end of the jetty adjacent to the
ferry terminal.

An immature PEREGRINE FALCON was reported from the Boundary Bay dike at 22nd
St.


August 26th

A PEREGRINE FALCON was observed in the evening from the second narrows
bridge.


August 25th

Six HEERMANN'S GULLS at the sand head light station were viewed from the mid
island to the Tswwassen ferry


August 24th

There were late reports of SEMIPALMATED PLOVERS at the beach grove lagoons
and a number of BLACK TURNSTONES were perched on the bars of the ferry berth
at the Tswwassen terminal. There was a RED-NECKED PHALAROPE at the Boundary
Bay Dike between 88th and 96th St.

Today's reports are all from Iona, An AMERICAN KESTREL was observed at the
mid point of the south jetty and the following birds were seen from the tip
of the jetty: an adult light morph PARASITIC JEAGER harassing COMMON TERNS
and BONEPARTE'S GULLS, a juvenile RUDDY TURNSTONE and a RHINOCEROS AUKLET.
One observer commented on the huge rafts of SURF SCOTERS of the end of the
jetty.


August 23rd

A juvenile HODSONIAN GODWIT was seen briefly during this afternoon's high
tide west of the foot of 96th St. Delta. The bird was easily seen from a
channel adjacent to the mansion however, it could not be relocated later in
the evening.

The lower mainland's birding scene remains to be generally quite though
there is an indication of a movement of small passerines through the region.
The only sightings reported today were 4 PURPLE MARTINS at Maplewood Flats
north Vancouver and about 50 RED CROSSBILLS feeding on kelp at the same
location.


August 22nd

Reports from Point Roberts included 2 HEERMANN'S GULLS and a RHINOCEROS
AUKLET at Lilly Point. Five RED-NECKED PHALAROPES at Lighthouse Marine Park
and a total of 56 HARLEQUIN DUCKS from west of the marina.

A breeding plumaged EARED GREBE and small numbers of returning HORNED GREBES
were reported from the south jetty at Iona and a TURKEY VULTURE was seen
over 208th St. Langley


August 21st

A PARASITIC JEAGER was seen off Light house Marine Park Point Roberts and a
RED NECKED PHALAROPE was observed in flight over the inner ponds at Iona.

Of interest, although out of our checklist range is a report out of Sumas WA
of 41 VAUX'S SWIFTS entering a chimney on the Cuspin Broker's Bldg. during a
20 min. period.
