Subject: Owl Heard in Seahurst 8/30/99

I was awoken by some hooting last night about 0215. I assume it was an
owl, but it may have been some other kind of hooter?
Ive tried to identify this hoot in the past but haven't gotten a
conclusive ID. I think it might be a Great Horned Owl but am not sure.
The hoot starts out with a bit of a squawk-growl, then a middle toned
"hoot" followed by a series of "hoo-hoo-hoo-hoo" and a "hoot-hoot" in a
descending scale. That was repeated for 15-20 minutes, before I fell
back to sleep.
Can anyone offer any suggestions?
BTW, I live in Seahurst, Washington which is part of Burien, King
County.
