>Welcome to winter ...
>
>December 1st marks the first day of winter for birders throughout the
>continent. Yesterday's late fall migrant is today's winter mega-rarity!
>Please refer to the Yukon checklist for expected winter species and >make
an effort to document any species not marked with a "w"
>(expected in winter).

>Any late fall migrants were likely given a fairly clear incentive to
>depart as temperatures plunged to the -20 to -40C range earlier this >week.
PINE GROSBEAKS and COMMON REDPOLLS are now >appearing in increasing numbers
at feeders. At least one COMMON >MERGANSER remains on the Yukon River in
Whitehorse, and an adult >BALD EAGLE was seen in Rabbit's Foot Canyon today
(December 1).
