Hi Tweets,

Today, flying over the flooded cow pastures near Smith Bros. Dairy I spied
flying quite high in the air a large bird, very back lit, that had what
looked like a "Cupid's Bow" shape as it flew. It never soared, just flapped
long slow deep beats. Any idea what this could have been?

I've also noticed there isn't much in the way of water fowl in the flooded
pastures these days. Today I parked at the north end of the flooded fields
and spied:
BUSHTITS fluttering and softly cheeping amidst the dry weeds
COOTS, coots, and more coots
NORTHERN PINTAILS on the east side of the West Valley Road
WIGEONS in with the Pintails
CANADA GEESE with a few feral domestics hanging out with them

Where have the swans gone?

I also checked out Lake Fenwick.

COMMON GOLDENEYE (female)
BELTED KINGFISHER (male) Announced itself boldly!
GADWALLS (pair)
PIED BILL GREBE
Another sort of small grebe, perhaps an eared grebe.
RING NECKED DUCK or LESSER SCAUP??? (female - ugly mud colored little duck
with a pale smudge at base of bill!)
HOODED MERGANSERS (males and females)
BUFFLEHEADS (males and females)
GADWALLS (one pair)
MALLARDS.....oh wow.
AMERICAN WIGEONS (one for sure male AM., one perhaps a hybrid....not much
green on it)
No former governors sighted today.

That's it for now....Have a great week folks!
