Hi Tweets,

Pulled the following off OBOL regarding recent Oregan pelagic sightings.
Note the Short-tailed Albatross, Mottled Petrel, Xantus-type Murrelet and
very high number (94) of Laysans ! Looking forward to our Westport Pelagic
trips on 1/22 and 2/26.

.....
I don't know if you receive many winter pelagic reports so I thought I'd
send this one in. The following is what I saw today (13 Dec) during a 60 NM
run north through OR from the OR/CA state line on our way from San Diego to
Seattle. The weather was excellent, partly sunny with no rain, winds from
the northwest at around 13-15 knots and a 3-4 metre northwest swell.
Steaming due north around 15-30 NM from shore.

Short-tailed Albatross 1 (close range view of stunning
juvenal-plumaged bird at Lat 42d 38m N, Long 124d 53m W, about 21 NM west of
Sister Rocks) [Curry Co. -gg]
Black-footed Albatross 46
Laysan Albatross 94
Northern Fulmar 3091 (abundant; almost all moving south)
Mottled Petrel 1 (flying south with fulmars at Lat 42d 50m N, Long 124d
53m W, about 14 NM west of Cape Blanco), 3 additional birds seen this
morning off northern CA.
Sooty Shearwater 6
Short-tailed Shearwater 3
Fork-tailed Storm-Petrel 2
Mew Gull 2
California Gull 2
Glaucous-winged Gull 29
Western Gull 3
Herring Gull 11
unidentified Larus 32
Black-legged Kittiwake 39
Parasitic Jaeger 1
Common Murre 9
Xantus'/Craveri's Murrelet 1 (not seen close enough to id but looked like
Xantus' at Lat 42d 24m N, Long 124d 53m W) [approx. 15-20 NM off Curry Co.
-gg]
Ancient Murrelet 3
Cassin's Auklet 100
Rhinoceros Auklet 104

......
Wishing you all the best for the season,
Michael Force
