Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This
recording was made Thursday December 16. If you have anything to add call
Harry Nehls at 233-3976.

On December 13 a research vessel off Coos and Curry Counties reported an
immature SHORT-TAILED ALBATROSS 21 nautical miles off Sisters Rock in
Curry County; A MOTTLED PETREL 14 nautical miles off Cape Blanco; a
probable XANTUS'S MURRELET; 94 LAYSAN and 46 BLACK-FOOTED ALBATROSSES.

The MOUNTAIN PLOVER continues to be seen on the beach at the Dunes
Overlook south of Florence. The BLUE JAY is still being seen in Sisters,
but the BLUE JAY at Twickenham was taken by a COOPER'S HAWK.

An adult gull fitting the description of a KAMCHATKA MEW GULL is among
the MEW GULL flocks on the ball fields at the south end of Westmoreland
Park in Portland. On December 13 an immature MEW GULL with pure white
rump and tail with a narrow black tail band was seen on the beach two
miles south of Waldport. This may also be a possible KAMCHATKA. These
birds need verification.

A PRAIRIE FALCON was seen during the week near Flores Lake in Curry
County. A SNOW BUNTING was at the South Jetty of the Columbia River
December 11. An OLDSQUAW is now being seen along the waterfront in
Astoria.

Large flocks of ROBINS and PINE SISKINS are now being seen in the
Willamette Valley. Smaller numbers of CEDAR WAXWINGS are also being
reported. The count of GREAT EGRETS in the Scappoose Bottoms is now up to
50. The ROSS'S GOOSE and two ROUGH-LEGGED HAWKS are regularly being seen
there. Another ROUGH-LEGGED is wintering just east of the Portland
Airport. On December 9 a TRUMPETER SWAN was west of North Plains, along
Highway 26 near the Tillamook Junction. A small flock of LESSER
GOLDFINCHES are now at the Fernhill Wetlands in Forest Grove. On December
11 a SANDHILL CRANE flew over the wetlands. The day before three CRANES
were seen in a field near Harrisburg, north of Eugene. Two WHITE PELICANS
are now being seen at Fern Ridge Reservoir near Eugene.

The OFO birding trip to northeastern Oregon last week-end found about 250
COMMON REDPOLLS in the Enterprise-Joseph area; BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS in
Joseph, Enterprise, and Lostine; and 35 GRAY-CROWNED ROSY-FINCHES at the
bottom of OK Gulch along the road to Zumwalt.

Probable BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS were heard in Bend last week-end. Up to 30
REDPOLLS are now at Sunriver, south of Bend; a dozen or so are along
Upper Rock Creek north of Condon; and at Mount Vernon.

Thats it for this week.
