Last week my girlfriend and I took off a couple of
days and went on a 2 night trip over to Clallam
County. No rarieties, but we enjoyed several bouts of
birding with a little sun and not much rain.

I had 3 lifers:

-VARIED THRUSH (heard before but not seen) in Elwha
valley near Altaire campground.
-RED-NECKED GREBE in Port Angeles harbor.
-SHRIKE, presumably Northern, seen chasing and
eventually catching a finchish bird at 3 Crabs
Restaurant, Dungeness.

Other highlights included:

-PIGEON GUILLIMOT at Diamond Point
-Wary MARBLED MURRELETS (4) in Port Angeles harbor.
-Being practically *charged* by a WINTER WREN while
pishing at patch of ferns in Elwha valley.
-A blackberry patch particularly rich in sparrows
(SONG, FOX, imm. GC, and juncos) at Possesion Sound
Park on Whidbey Island, under the eye of a perched
RED-TAILED HAWK.

I'd hoped to see ANCIENT MURRELETS from the Port
Townsend-Keystone ferry, but saw only COMMON MURRES, I
think.

The problem with expert advice is that it so often conflicts with one's plans.
