Yesterday, near my sunflower seed feeder that is a perpetual hang-out for
BLACK-CAPPED CHICKADEES appeared a bird I am confident was one of them. It
was, however, mostly a ball of down, just barely able to fly, taking long
rests on the hand rail the adults usually shun, and looking at the feeder
but unable to do a thing about it. Its tail feathers were short, giving a
nuthatch-like appearance, but overall "jizz" - if that's still a word, said
chickadee - baby chickadee. I didn't think things like this happened here in
December. Anybody know what's going on here? Thanks.
