Hi All!
We birded our way from Walla Walla to Two Rivers Park in Finley,
target bird, Black and White Warbler, this was our third try, should
have been the charm, but no warbler.
25 species of other birds did show up, among them a Great Horned
Owl that had apparently had a supper of Barn Owl last night. Dennis
Rockwell saw a Peregrine Falcon earlier in the day, Mike and Merry
Lynn Denny found one Glaucous-winged Gull, we found one Gadwal and a
few Wood Ducks. Several Marsh Wrens were present and a Virginia Rail
was heard calling.
14 Red-tailed Hawks and 2 Rough-legged Hawks were noted between
Walla Walla and Burbank. One Sharp-shinned Hawk almost ended his life
on our front windshield.
19 American White Pelicans were seen along the Colombia River
north of the Boise Cascade plant.
At McNary Nat. Wildlife Hdqrs. near Burbank were many
White-crowned Sparrows, House Finches, Dark-eyed Juncos(including one
Slate-colored), one Lincoln's Sparrow. We could not find the reported
Swamp Sparrow. There were 4 Yellow-rumped Warblers and 1 very late
Orange-crowned Warbler.
On the water were many! Mallards, Ring-necked Ducks,
Canvasbacks and 1 Lesser Scaup. Of interest, there were no
Buffleheads seen.
Good Birding to all on your Christmas Counts!
