This is flock maybe worth monitoring as I wonder if its a resident population.

Three reasons for my thought:

*Both years they have been seen quite late in the year, indicating likely
wintering.

*They have been seen in the same area, not usually the case for migrants,
especially when this area is not really different than alot of other areas up
there. Typical clearcut area of 3-5 years of age with scattered trees left.
This is the same type of area I have seen W. Bluebirds breeding in other
areas of W. WA in the counties of King and Kitsap.

*This is a large group (12 in '98, 11 in '99) consisting of both males and
females, not just a isolated individual.

It would be interesting to get a better picture by somebody making several
trips up there next year during different times of the year. I would think
somebody would need to document the following: 1) that they are breeding.
2)that they do over-winter.

So I should have asked: What documentation is there for resident bluebirds in
Western Washington?

To identify a species should not be enough to quench one's thirst,
a proper thirst must seek to understand every facet of the bird's
existence.
